Weber Grill on Sale Package arrived via Ontrac in great condition. Was actually surprised at how good of a condition the box was in given it’s size as other large stuff like car seats arrived with pretty beat up boxes. There were no broken/missing/incorrect pieces and was very easy to assemble. It took about 45 minutes to an hour to assemble, but that was with me double checking the picture at each step to make sure I didn’t miss anything or use the wrong part.  The base is plastic and while putting it together some portions seemed like they would be flimsy under the weight of the grill, but after it was all put together it is very solid.

The grill heats up very quickly and cooks evenly across the grate. While the grates seem to be quality grates, they are somewhat difficult to clean completely due to the pattern of the grate. The rest of the grill was easy to cleanup. Weber Gas Grill I’ve seen a couple of posts saying to just turn the grill up on high and leave it there for 20-30 minutes, but I’m not sure if that’s going to damage it or not since the instruction manual says not to do that. Weber Grill on Sale If you could do that though, cleanup would be a cinch. The only thing I wish the grill had is a handle to push/pull it around with. However, it isn’t too bad because you can just grip the sides of where the tray is connected and it seems to be good enough. Overall, I’m very happy with the purchase.

Until we got this grill recently, we had been using the same charcoal grill for the last 32 years. I was reluctant to switch to gas, because most of the grills I have seen were huge and either very expensive or made with sheet metals that would rust as soon as the paint chipped off. I was not even aware that there was a gas grill like this Weber Q320 with a cast aluminum firebox and rustproof frame, features that allowed our old one to last for so long (we just had to replace grates a few times).

The other thing that helped convince me to buy this gas grill (besides my wife saying “We could be eating now if we had a gas grill.” or “We can’t fix that, it will take too long for the charcoal to be ready.”) was learning about “smoker boxes” for using wood chips to add flavor to foods, which seems to me to have even more potential than charcoal. Indeed, the chicken kabobs I grilled last night with tomatoes, mushrooms, onion and peppers, all marinated in a Greek salad dressing, were just awesome. While using skewers, I also realized the utility in the lid design where the 3/4 inch gap under the left and right edges lets you easily use long skewers without cooking the handles, since there is room for them to stick out from under the closed lid without interfering with the lid. Weber Gas Grill Whether this was an intended design feature or a holdover from the portable models where the side tables fold up under the lid, I’m not sure, but it works well for using skewers.

I love the simple design of this grill while still having some nice convenience features like the electronic ignition and the light that has come in handy a couple of times already. Having separately controlled burners for direct and indirect heating is also great to have. Although there is not really a place to put a smoker box under the grate and closer to the flame, I can usually find space somewhere on the cooking surface, although it takes a bit longer for the wood chips to start smoking. Consequently, I will be using dry chips for anything that takes less than 15 minutes to cook. I also intend to use branches from our hickory trees.

It’s also nice that the stand includes brackets to hold both the top and bottom of the gas tank in place so it doesn’t fall off the cart. Since the gas tank is not included, I bought an empty 20-lb tank at Lowes for 29 bucks and got it filled at a local supplier for 20 bucks, and it measured exactly on the full line using the handy “Grill Gauge” spring type scale I got from Ace Hardware. Weber Grill on Sale The empty tank, which weighs 16.7 lbs without any propane, registered exactly on the empty line, so the scale appears to be accurately calibrated to account for the tare weight.

When I measured a full tank from the Lowes exchange rack, it only measured between 3/4 and full, so it was underfilled, which I understand is a common practice these days at tank exchange places. Weber Grill on Sale I got the “Grill Gauge” for monitoring how much propane I have left in the tank, but since it’s a portable device, the tank doesn’t have to be hooked up in order to use it, so you can take it with you to check whether you are getting a full tank or not, plus I think it may be more accurate than a pressure-based gauge.
